Rev. Elmos O. Kilgo
WEST SALEM, OH – Rev. Elmos O. Kilgo, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2018.
He was born at home on Brushy Pond Mountain in Alabama on September 7, 1926. Elmos was raised in Alabama and served in the Army in WWII. He moved to Ohio in the 1950's and worked many jobs throughout his life which included being a lumber jack, a coal miner and building airplanes and cars. He was a carpenter, a farmer, a beekeeper, and a mink rancher, but his true love was pastoring. He pastored four churches throughout his years and was the founder of Union Missionary Church in Norton, OH. He loved to preach and talk about the Lord. Elmos preached his first sermon in Ryans Creek Baptist Church in Bremen where they broke the attendance records. His first sermon is as true today as it was the day he preached it – What every person in hell has and every living person needs…a desire to see the lost saved. His last request was to let everyone know Jesus is the only way to true happiness and in Him there is no death. He left a testimony that leaves no doubt that the day he entered Heaven there was shouting on the Hills of Glory.
Elmos is preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Jewel (Blanton) Kilgo and his infant daughter, Marie; parents, Frank and Minnie (Philips) Kilgo; brothers, Erving, Earl, Lawrence and Otis; sister, Lessie Mae. He is survived by his daughters, Loretta (Jerry) Stone, Joyce (Ron) Roesch, Connie (Bob) Knopp; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Everet, Loyal (Janell), Brady (Glenda) and Delwin (Frances); sister, Leonie Johnson; many nephews, nieces and great friends.
