Funeral services for Lorene Nichols, 84, of Hanceville will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Hanceville Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Burtram officiating. Burial will follow at Laodicea Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Friday evening beginning at 5:30 at the funeral home.

The daughter of the James and Georgia Crawford Harville is survived by sons Greg (Donna) Nichols of White City and Danny Nichols of Hanceville. Also, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Wayne Nichols and a daughter, Audrey McClendon.

Funeral services for Hugh Max Graves, 83, of Hanceville will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Hanceville Funeral Home chapel. Reverends Randall Waldrep and John McCoy officiating, burial with military honors will follow at the Garden City Cemetery. Max's family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening beginning at 5:30. In lieu of flowers donations may be made for funeral expense funds.

 The son of the late Doc and Ada Brooks Graves died Saturday, February 23rd at UAB hospital after a brief illness.

 He is survived by his wife, Nell, daughters; Faye (Dewayne) Morris, Maxine (Jack) Clay, Yvon Sharp and Becky (Kenny) White. Adopted daughters in love are Becky (Doug) Dutton Bowers and Delilah (Steve) Sontag.  Grandchildren are; Maxwell Shawn (Tracy) Burgess, Austin (Cheyenne) White, Houston (CarrieAnn) White and Jazzlyn (Justin) Sharp.

Graveside services for Charles Henry Knighten, 79, of Hanceville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday February 25, 2019 at Garden City Cemetery, Reverends Philip Vaughn and William Vaughn officiating. Hanceville Funeral Home directing.  Mr. Knighten's family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday morning beginning at 9:00 A.M.

 Mr. Knighten was a 1958 graduate of Hanceville High School,  had served in the National Guard for several years and worked for Winn Dixie for 42 years.

 He is survived by his wife Burma N. Knighten of Gardendale, son Charles "Chip" (Maria)  Knighten, Jr. of Manasass, Va., a daughter,  Amanda "Manny" (John) Moody of Cullman, and a step daughter, Barbara Wengel of Shelby County, Alabama.

Brothers include Joseph "Mike"(Sherry) Knighten and Paul "Tony" (Cissy) Knighten both of Gurly, Alabama. Surviving sisters are Betty (Robert, Jr.) Bradford of Oneonta and Carol (Philip) Vaughn of Blountsville, Alabama. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Jacob Curtis, Jason Baker, Evan Curtis, Lee Baker, Joseph Knighten and Robert Bradford

 

Funeral services for  Janie  Brossow, of Hanceville will be 11 A.M. Monday February 25, 2019 at the Hanceville Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends at the Hanceville Funeral Home beginning at 5:30 P.M. Sunday February 24. Mrs. Brossow passed on February 22 at Woodland Village. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her son James "Jimmy" Brossow Jr.


Survivors include her husband James L. Brossow, daughters,  Jeanie Certain of Arab and Julie Boatright of Hancville. Brothers include Bud Brossow and Kenny Brossow. Sisters are Judy Lamb and Joan       . Other surviors include a host of grandchildren.

Graveside services for Joyce McAnnally Casey, 79, of Decatur will be 2 P.M. Monday February 25, 2019 at Garden City Cemetery. Hanceville Funeral Home directing.  Her family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 Monday.  Mrs. Casey passed on February 19, 2019 in Decatur. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kennith and a daughter Kathy Lynn Casey. She and her husband founded WKAC Radio in Athens 1964 and it is still family owned today.


Survivors include a son, Keith (Pam) Casey; daughters,  Kimberly Casey Davis and Karen Casey McTaggart all of Decatur. Also are grandchildren; Kristopher Casey, Ella Davis, John Davis IV, Anna McTaggart and Adam McTaggart.

Mrs. Eunice Dessie Shelton, age 83 of Hanceville, AL., passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her children – Lyndon Oneal Shelton (Jackie), Cheryl Dyer (John), and Lewis Dean Shelton, her sister – Mary McSwain, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shelton is preceded in death by her husband, Oneal Shelton, her parents – George Allen and Mamie Maria (Brandon) Welch, her siblings – Gilbert Welch, Ed Welch, Tracy Welch, Clifford Welch, Woodrow Welch, and Kathryn Welch.

Funeral Service will be Monday, February 18, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Shelton Grove Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.  Mrs. Shelton will Lie In Repose, at the church, Sunday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Monday from 12 (noon) until funeral time

Reba, the daughter of S.S. and Essa Ellard Sloan was born in Cullman County on October 6, 1930. She is survived by her son Steve McHenry and her daughter and son-in-law Theresa and Larry Carlisle.  She also leaves behind her granddaughter, Julie Bland and great granddaughter, Kirby Bland.

Graveside services for Gleniel Dewitt Gandy will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Cullman City Cemetery with Andrew Smith officiating.

Mr. Gandy, born May 15, 1927 in Cullman County died Tuesday at his residence in Gardendale. The son of the late B.U. and Elmira Parker Gandy is survived by his wife, Tera Gandy. Two sons, Jeff Gandy of Gardendale and Phillip (Stacy) Gandy of Houston, Tx. One granddaughter, Kylie Lauren Gandy and two step grandchildren Avery and Lilly Wager.

Mr. Hullet Ray "Brownie" Dyer,86, of Hanceville, passed on February 2, 2019 in Birmingham.

He was born to William Robert and Emily Payne Dyer August 31, 1932.

Visitation will be Monday February 4th at 12:00 PM, with services at 2:00 PM in the Hanceville Funeral  Home Chapel, with burial following Hopewell Cemetery. Reverend  Chris Barnett and Reverend Clay Tankersley will be officiating.

He was preceded in death by his father William Robert Dyer and Emily (Payne) Dyer. Brownie served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and spent his working career at The Birmingham News and Mercury Express.

Survivors are his wife Julia Dyer, son Danny, Daughter-In-Law Robin Dyer, of Hanceville. Eight grandchilden and 17 great grandchildren.

 

 

 

Funeral services for John William Shaddrix will be held At 2 p.m Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Hanceville Funeral Home chapel  with Rev. William Windham officiating. Family will receive friends Monday evening beginning at 5:30.
Mr. Shaddrix of Walter passed on February 3, 2019 in Cullman.
John was a retired truck driver

Survivors include his wife Faye Shaddrix, sons; Jerry (Tracy Watson) of Good Hope and Jeff of Walter. Daughter, Donna Cone of Hanceville, daughter-in-law, Tammy Shaddrix; Brother Buddy Shaddrix, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by an aunt, Syble Baker. Step-daughter Christie Vaughan of Brooksville, step-son Rodney Martin of Horton.  He was preceded in death by a son, Ronny and step son Danny.

Funeral Service for Joan Carolyn Millican, 67, of Hanceville will be held in the Hanceville Funeral Home chapel Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. with interment following in Bangor Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday evening beginning at 6p.m.  Joan was born in Cullman on May 20, 1951 to Ray and Edna Cook Millican.

She is survived by her children; Tracey Culwell of Hanceville and Jeff (Kelly) Childers of  Foley, Al.  Grandchildren; Whitney Culwell, Poncho Culwell, Maranda Pippin and Leah Butler.  Great Grandchildren; Ava Ferdin, Amelia Vieyra, Siya Vieyra and Makynlee Pippin.  Siblings; Kathy Davis of Hanceville and Phillip Milligan of Prattville.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Millican.

Luda Ray Copeland

September 5, 1924 – January 31, 2019

Ray Copeland was born in Fort Payne Alabama on September 5, 1924 to M. H. and Ethel Shamblin Copeland.  He passed away on January 31, 2019 at home with his family at his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Opal Absher Copeland, his brother George Lee Copeland, sister Vaudine (Joe) Howell, his son Danny Absher, granddaughter Carl Absher and grandson James Absher.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Arthur and June Absher, his grandsons Scott and Michael Absher, a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Hanceville Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Burial will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Adamsburg at 2 p.m. on Monday the 4th.
