Funeral services for Frieda Pauline Batemon, 70, of Hanceville, Alabama will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Center Hill Cemetery. Reverend Heath Riggs will officiate. Visitation will be the day of the service at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 P.M.

 

Mrs. Batemon is survived by her husband, Jimmie Batemon; children, Dana Batemon McRee (Waldo); Jimmie "Jay" Raye Batemon II, Michael Raye Batemon (Deanna), and Curtis Raye Batemon (Ketsarin); 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Johns (Marie); and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Mrs. Batemon was preceded in death by her parents, Taft and Virginia McGuffie) Johns; and two sisters, Robbie Smith and Octavia Popee.

Funeral services for Darrell Leon Kretzschmar, 58, of Hanceville, Alabama will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanceville. Burial will follow at Garden City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Kretzschmar was born to Harold and Wilda (Jenkins) Kretzschmar on November 19, 1962 in Blount County, Alabama. He died at the age of 58 in Birmingham at UAB Hospital.

 

He was employed with Lifeguard Ambulance Service where he was a paramedic and had previously worked for Samaritan EMS and Terry's County EMS. He was also the owner of Kretzschmar Timbers LLC. In addition to his career, he spent most of his time riding motorcycles, camping, building antique cars, and spending time with his family.

 

Mr. Kretzschmar was an Elder of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanceville. The family would like to send a special 'Thanks' to Alabama Home Health for the excellent care provided during his illness.

 

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Children Education Fund at 505 Commercial St, Hanceville, Alabama 35077.

Funeral service Cindy Wood, 50, of Hanceville will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Stonebridge Farms with Reverends Rodney Thompson and Bradley McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem East Cemetery in Hanceville. Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cindy's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening beginning at 6 p.m. and at Stonebridge from 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Marguerite Edwards Dale, 102, of Hanceville, passed away peacefully into the glory of the Lord April 21, 2021, at Cullman Regional Medical Center, with family at her side. She was born November 6, 1918, the second child and first daughter to Rufus and Annie Edwards.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Dale; brothers, Earl and R.T. and sister, Mildred.

 

She is survived by brothers, Paul and Alvin (Dell); and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

 

Family meant everything to her. She knew everyone's birthdays, husbands/wives, and new generations of children. She was our greatest expert.

 

She lived in Coldwater, worked at Anniston Army Depot for 45 years and was a faithful member of Coldwater Baptist Church. She later returned "home" and re-joined her childhood church, Garden City First Baptist.

 

Marguerite's family extends heartfelt 'Thanks' to her caregivers at Monarch Place, CRMC, and Dr. Mark Addison.

 

Visitation will be 12 Noon, Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home with the funeral beginning at 2PM and burial following the service at Hopewell Cemetery.

 Ephron Homer Davis, lifelong resident of Hanceville, AL, passed at his home peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on April 16th, 2021. Homer was 85 years old at the time of his passing.
Homer is survived by his wife Delores (Dolly) Davis; his children Ephron (Jeff) Davis II (Kathy Davis), David Davis (Jeanette Davis), Sandie (Davis) Karbach (Ron Karbach), John (Johnny) Davis, Lynn Davis (Ezra Sosa), Brandy Davis, Casey (Davis) Jones (Dylan Jones), and Lakin Davis; his 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Homer was born in Hanceville, AL on January 31st, 1936 to Ephron W. Davis and Linnie Kate (Powers) Davis. Homer was one of 8 children and the youngest boy. He graduated from Hanceville High School in 1955 where he was part of Hanceville's first undefeated football team. He later joined the Army where he served for eleven and a half years. Homer married his wife Dolly on May 6, 1978. He was an expert electrician for 60 years as a member of the IBEW, local chapter 733. He retired at the age of 65 from Ingall Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS and owned his own electrical business, D&D Electric.
Homer was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an avid Auburn fan,a very hard and dedicated worker, and was known to give the shirt off of his back to someone in need. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family.
A viewing will be held for Ephron Homer Davis at Hanceville Funeral Home on Monday, April 19th, 2021 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm with service immediately following. Flowers, donations, and condolences are accepted at Hanceville Funeral Home the day of the service.

Mr. Self was a kind-hearted individual who always enjoyed helping others and always strived to be a part of something in life.

 

Mr. Self is survived by his children, Erica, Dakota, Jasmine, and Katherine Self; mother, Penelope (Gary) Lee; brother, Nicholas (Jesseca) Self; step-sister, Bridgette Lee; grandmother, Edna Cagle Self; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

 

Mr. Self was preceded in death by his father, Herndon Self Jr., grandfather, Herndon Self Sr., and uncles, Bobby Self and Kenneth Self.


It's MOST difficult to know where to begin writing about the long and varied life of Billy Ray Stewart. He filled many roles. He was a son, a husband, a father, a grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, a brother an uncle, a cousin, and a friend to all.

 

He was born on May 12, 1933, to Walter and Lela Pearl Stewart in Cullman, Alabama. He spent his early years there, and for a short time, in Georgia and Texas. He joined, and spent 3 years in the Army, stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He married and moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he spent almost 20 years, before moving his family back to Cullman in 1970. He worked, and retired from Speedring (now known as General Dynamics) as a gifted machinist and much respected supervisor. He loved the country life, and greatly enjoyed living on his farms, both near Holly Pond and Goldridge, Alabama.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lela Pearl Stewart, brother, Bobby Joe Stewart, wives, Wilma Jo Stewart (the mother of his children), and Onzelle Stewart.

 

He is survived by his children: Debra (Mitchell) Brock, Sharon (William) Davis, Linda (David) Farmer, and Keith (Teresa) Stewart. Seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Sister, Joyce Moore, former wife Dianne Reynolds and many cousins and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Duck River Cemetery in the Walter Community. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 16, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Cindy Pope, 61, of Hanceville, AL will be 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Visitation will be at Hanceville Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:30 P.M. to 3:45 P.M.

 

Mrs. Pope was born on April 19, 1959 to Homer and Opal (Robertson) Twilley in Cullman. She died on April 8, 2021 at Woodland Nursing Home in Cullman.

 

Survivors include Freddie Pope; mother, Opal Twilley; daughter, Freda Blanton; son, Jeremy Pope; grandson, Jaythan Blanton; granddaughters, Madison Pope and Pipper Pope; a great grandson, Alec Meza; brothers, Allen (Threase) Twilley and Junior (Lynn) Twilley; and sisters, Bonnie (Genaro) Castillo and Debra (Steve) Turny.

 

Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her father, Homer Twilley and sister, Diane Rodriguez.


On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Michael Darrell McNeal passed away at the age of 66. He was born May 31, 1954 in Cullman, Alabama. His parents are Darrell (Billy) Rudy McNeal and Faye Marie Bennett McNeal.
Michael and his wife moved to North Carolina in 1989. He retired from Johnston County Public Utilities in Four Oaks, NC in 2020. Prior to that he had a Farrier business, Professional Horseshoeing, for 30 years. He was a 40 year member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge where he held the degree of Master Mason. He was a member of Burnell Baptist Church in Four Oaks, NC.
Michael was known to many as simply 'Valdez' or 'Uncle V'. He had a passion for life. He loved his family and friends dearly. He was a free spirit and lived life to the fullest.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Billy McNeal and his mother, Faye McNeal.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Jones McNeal; daughter, Emily McNeal; future son-in-law, Melvin Benton; brothers, Tommy McNeal (Janice), Darrell McNeal (Sheri), and David McNeal 'Valdez Jr.'; and a host of relatives and friends.
Michael is coming home to those he knew and loved from childhood on. Please come by to say farewell. If you knew Michael, then you have your own story to tell. He was a fortunate man to have so many friends to have shared life with. I know he loved and treasured you all!
There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC. after the family returns back to North Carolina. That date has not been set at this time.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 11, 2021 from 12-2 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home, 100 Michelle Street Northwest, Hanceville, AL, with funeral services from 2-3 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Hopewell Cemetery, 492 County Road 582, Hanceville. Deserts and beverages will be served in the Hopewell Fellowship Hall, a short walk from the cemetery. Please join us as we say goodbye.

A graveside service for Mary Lee "Mimi" Williams, 91, of Hanceville, AL will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Bethlehem East Cemetery in Hanceville. Reverend Caleb Elrod will be officiating.

 

Ms. Williams was born to the Late James Van Buren and Bessie (Roberts) Williams in June 23, 1929. She died on April 5, 2021 at Hanceville Nursing and Rehab Center in Hanceville.

 

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Carolyn Reynolds Garrett, Joanne Williams Killiham, Bruce Williams, Mary Lou Taylor, Wayne Williams, Judy Williams Hooper, Brenda Williams Miller, Jeremy Van Williams, Michael Williams, Deborah Sloan Wallace, Karen Sloan Billingham, Lucrecia Williams Leslie, and Lori Williams-Williams; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Ms. Williams was preceded in death by her sisters, Ivo Williams Reynolds and Imojean Williams Sloan; brothers, Travis Williams, Hershel Williams, Roy Williams, Marvin Williams, and Frank Williams; and nephews, Bennie Williams and Tommy Reynolds.

Mr. Ballard was born on January 28, 1944 in Hanceville and died at his residence in Hanceville on April 4, 2021.

 

Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Ballard; daughter, Kathy (Jason) Cone; grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew) White and Christopher (Holli) Mattox; great grandchild, Bentley Knight; brother, Donald Ballard; and sister, Christine Mayhall.

 

Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his parents, Lonis and Vera Louise (Melton) Ballard; sisters, Frances Baker and Dean Sterling; and a brother, John Ballard.

Reverends Wayne Wisener and Hobert Thomas will be officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 11:30 A.M.

 

Ms. Elrod was born on February 1, 1943 to the Late Edward and Doris (Howell) Vest in Center Hill. She died on April 2, 2021 at the age of 78 at Hanceville Nursing and Rehab Center.

 

Survivors include her son, Rodney (Melannie) Jacobs; grandchildren, Haley (Chris) Horn, Alex (Lynnsie) Jacobs, and Katie Jacobs; great grandchildren, Ella Jacobs, Jaxon Jacobs, and Karrigan Jacobs; brother, Elvie (Kay) Vest; niece, Karen (David) Brandon; nephew Jeff (Sally) Vest; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
