Funeral services for Danny Wayne Hamby of Hanceville will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Laodicea Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Hanceville. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 1, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Hamby was born on August 29, 1961 in Arab, Alabama to Isaac and Martha (Heaton) Hamby. He died on September 29, 2021 at the age of 60 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

 

Survivors include his wife, Samantha Roberson; children, Shannon Hamby and Cory Hamby; granddaughter, McKenna Hamby; sister, Charlotte Bates; brother, Lamar Hamby; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Hamby and sister, Martha Bates.

 

Pallbearers will be Tony Bates, Lee Bates, Daniel Bates, Albert Rangel, Presston Eddy and Cordaro Love.


A graveside service for Edna Earle Hicks will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Duck River Cemetery in Hanceville. Reverend Gary Waddell will be officiating.

 

Mrs. Hicks was born on October 30, 1930 to William and Lorene (Phillips) Holcombe in Cullman County, Alabama. She died at the age of 90 on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Hanceville Nursing and Rehab Center.

 

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her children, Terry Keith Hicks (Janice), William K Hicks (Joan), Gary Wayne Hicks (Cecila) and Phillip Hicks (Charlotte); grandchildren, Brandon Hicks, Josh Hicks, Elizabeth Hicks Taylor (Chad), Lidnsey Burks (Matthew), Carrie Rusell (Jeremy), Cathy Hicks, Sara Black, Laurel Waddle, and Scott Hicks (Leslie); 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Jean Hodge.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hicks; and grandchild, Sam Hicks.

Funeral services for Billy Wayne "Cotton" Starnes will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 29th  at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion Nazarene Cemetery in Blount County. Reverend Tony Hitt will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 28th at Hanceville Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Starnes was born on June 13, 1951 in Blount County to Houston and Ada Mae (Davis) Starnes. He died at the age of 70 on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman.

 

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Starnes; son, Anthony Wayne (Rita) Starnes; daughters, Becky Short, Amy (Leo) Moctezuma, Jessica Dye and Jennifer Weaver; grandchildren, Destiny Short, Taylor Short, Preston Moctezuma, Erika Moctezuma, Miguel Moctezuma, Bailey Turrentine, James Doss Jr., Harley Lewis, Sadie Weaver, Dalton Weaver and Will Calvert; mother-in-law, Betty Melson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Starnes was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Nichols,; brothers, Dwight and Roger Dale Starnes; daughter, Angela Starnes; and sister-in-law, Frances Starnes.

Funeral services for Carrie Lee Swann of Hanceville will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Valley View Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery. Reverend Philip Starnes will officiate. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the church.

 

Mrs. Swann was born to Jim and Senia (Jones) Wolf on July 19, 1923 in Walker County. She died at the age 98 on September 25, 2021.

 

Survivors include her children, Gaylon Tyrone Baty, William Thomas Swann, Perry Lynn Swann and James Spencer Swann; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.


A graveside service for Oliver Edwin Duke of Hanceville will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Reverend Tim Junkins will be officiating. Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Mr. Duke was born on April 22, 1934 to the late Joseph and Gladys (Odom) Duke in Cullman County. He died at the age of 87 at his residence in Hanceville on September 25, 2021. Mr. Duke was a member of the United States Navy where he was enlisted on September 2, 1952 and served for 4 years as a Gunners Mate (GM).

 

Mr. Duke is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Louise Parker-Duke; children, Joseph (Peggy) Duke, Edwin (Gina) Duke, Johnney (Patsy) Duke and Keith (Nina) Duke; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and was one of 12 children.

 

Pallbearers will be Roger Duke, Matt Duke, Anthoney Duke, Adam Duke, Colton Buckelew, Karson Buckelew, Devin Bates, and Jeremy Weldon.


Funeral services for Rhonda Marie Swann of Hanceville will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Reverend Clay Tankersley will officiate. Visitation for the public will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Swann was born on June 27, 1972 in Marshall County, Alabama and died at the age of 49 on September 25, 2021 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. Mrs. Swann attended Wallace State Community College where she obtained her nursing degree and went on to pursue her career at Cullman Regional Medical Center. In addition to her career, Rhonda was always busy helping others in need. She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a passion for using her photography skills. Rhonda will be missed by many and her legacy will continue through the family and friends that she cherished.

 

Mrs. Swann leaves behind her husband, O'Neal Swann; children, Dusty (Tiffany) Swann, Kolby (Alex) Smith, Kody (Dakoda) Smith and Kyle Smith; grandchildren, Ryker Smith, Lincoln Smith, Emmalyn Swann, Titan Swann and Whitley Smith; mother, Gracie (Ronnie) Jones; mother and father-in-law, Betty (Dean) McClung; father-in-law, Elwin Swann; brothers, Eddie (Rhonda) Hardy, Tony (Rhonda) Hardy, Shawn (Kelly) Jones and Jeremy Jones; grandparents of her children, Carla and Perry Towe; Goddaughter, Brittani Armstrong; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

 

Mrs. Swann was preceded in death by her father, James Hardy and grandmother, Marie Hardy.

In loving memory of Marion Louie Jochum Jr.

 

 Mr. Jochum passed September 20th 2021 at Cullman Regional Hospital. He was born in Cullman County February 19th 1962 to Ethelene Powell and the late Louie Martini Jochum.

 

He was a man of all trades; he worked in the log woods for 20 plus years and was a millwright worker at PCS in Aurora, North Carolina. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Karen Ray Jochum; mother Ethelene Powell; sisters Shirley Aaron and Lucy Carnell; and bother Charles "Buck" Hudson; daughter April Humphreys and her children, Cheyenne Sharpton and Chasity Humphreys; as well as great grandson Liam Sharpton; daughter, Jamie Lozano and her children, Luisa Lozano and Cristian Lozano; daughter, Meagan Jochum and son Nicholas Jochum.

Mrs. Wise was born on April 15, 1952 in Jefferson County to JB and Jo Ann (Gober) Day. She died at the age of 69 on September 22, 2021 at USA Health Care in Cullman.

 

Survivors include her children, Angie Wise, Barry Wise, and Andrea Wise (Adam Anderson); grandchildren, Kristin (Jason) Pichelmayer, Nicholas Wise, Ryan (Crystal) Goss, Dustin Wise, Cody (Victoria) Anderson and Laney Wise; great grandchildren, Landon Pichelmayer, Harley Pichelmayer and Adalynn Goss; siblings, Sandra Doss, Jimmy Day, Debra (Danny) Kilgore, Carolyn Day, Johnny Day and Arthur Day; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wise was also preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Wise; and brother, Joseph Day.


A graveside service for Janice Sharp-Hall, of Warrior will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Center Hill Cemetery in Hanceville. Reverend Randy Hays will officiate.

 

Ms. Hall was born on February 16, 1955 to Paskel and Marie (Gardner) Sharp in Birmingham. She died at the age of 66 on September 22, 2021 at St. Vincent's in Blount County. Her favorite hobby was to go fishing. She was a special lady who loved and cared for her entire family in times of need and will be missed by many.

 

Ms. Hall leaves behind her brother, Mancil Norman Sharp; sisters, Shirley (Dalton) Chandler Sr. and Kay (Terry) Rock; sister-in-law, Tammy Sharp; nieces and nephews, Teresa Glass, Dalton Chandler Jr., Jeff Chandler, Nicole Woody, T.J. Rock, Allie Sharp and Matthew Anderson; nine great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Weiss Sharp; and sister-in-law, Martha Sharp.

Funeral services for Tharlin "Slim" Shelton of Cullman will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Shelton Grove Cemetery. Reverend Tim Turney will officiate. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

 

Mr. Shelton was born on November 21, 1937 to Elvin and Elmer (Jeerdan) Shelton in Cullman. He died at the age of 83 at Cullman Regional Medical Center on September 19, 2021. Mr. Shelton was a loving father, brother and grandfather. In times of need you could always count on him to be there whether you were related or not. He will definitely be missed.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Denise Bright; son, Glenn Shelton; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Darrnell.

 

Pallbearers will be Eli Speegle, Dillon Speegle, Chris Page, Heath Scott, James Calloway and Michael Boyd.

Mrs. Edwards was born on March 11, 1934 in Garden City and was raised by Jack and May Vincent after her mother had passed. She died at the age of 87 at her residence in Garden City surrounded by her family.

 

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Edwards; children, Deborah Ann Jones (Stephen), Douglas Lee Edwards, Gregory J Edwards (Lisa) and adopted son, Chase Lane; grandchildren, Leah, Leslie, Ryan, Ross Jackson and Luke; and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Washburn; and sisters, Faye and Shera.

Mrs. Edwards was born on May 15, 1927 in Cullman to Thomas William and Ada (Little) Duke. She died on September 15, 2021 at the age of 94 at Hanceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Survivors include her children, Jerry (Janice) Edwards and Shelia Edwards; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Charles Duke; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Sue Duke and Wynelle Duke; and her brother, Billy John Duke.

Roy Douglas Wawerski, 58, of Cullman, AL passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

Roy was born in Ottawa, IL on July 16, 1963 and died at his residence on September 14, 2021.

Survivors include his two brothers, Bob (Connie) and Ray (Peggy) Wawerski, one sister, Tina Wawerski, his lifelong friend, J. Mike Oregeron, and one son, Jerod Ceja.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann E. Modesitt, Swampy Modesitt, and one brother Russell Wawerski.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Roy's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Mr. Graves was born on August 25, 1984 in Birmingham and died at his residence in Crane Hill on September 3, 2021.

 

Survivors include his parents, Mark Graves and Pam (Calvert) Graves; children, Allie Graves and Lexi Graves; mother of his children, Whitney (Denton) Graves; grandmother, Faye Graves; grandfather, Ellard Calvert; and a host of aunts and uncles.

 

Mr. Graves was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Calvert and grandfather, Ellis Graves.
