Lucille Shamblee Obit

Funeral services for Lucille Shamblee, 85, of Cullman, will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Zion Grove Cemetery. Pastor Mary Sue officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 20, 2021 beginning at 5:00 P.M.

She is survived by her children, Melissa (Chuck) Brown, Tony Smith, Randy (Debra) Smith, Linda Dillingham, and Timothy Smith; twenty grandchildren; a multitude of great-grandchildren; six sisters; four brothers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shamblee is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Shamblee; son, Tracy Smith; son-in-law, Eugene Dillingham; and one sister.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Shirley Cox-Moore; sons, Steven Moore, and Wesley Cox; daughter, Courtney Underwood; sisters, Ruthie Moore Seymore, and Margaret Moore Matlock; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie & Laura Moore; and four brothers, Charlie Moore, Jimmie Moore, Leon Moore, and Johnny Moore.

Mrs. Kretzschmar is survived by her daughter, Paula Kretzschmar; her son, Tony (Sheila) Kretzschmar; granddaughter, Vanessa (Mitch) McClusky; grandsons, Joshua (Misty) Kretzschmar, Jacob (Katie) Kretzschmar, and Matthew (Kimberly) Kretzschmar; great-grandchildren, Logan Kretzschmar, Cason Kretzschmar, and Hanna Kate Kretzschmar; and a special friend, Arlanda Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Bayo" Kretzschmar Jr.; her parents, John & Fairy Bowers; sister, Pauline (Herbert) McAlpine; brother, Bobby Bowers; and two infant brothers.

Jonnie Gibbs Grantham passed away Dec. 13, 2021. She was born June 7, 1920. Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday,  December 16, 2021 at Hopewell Cemetery. Reverend Paul Campbell officiating, Hanceville Funeral Home directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud Grantham; her parents, M. M. and Lena Clements Gibbs; brother, James M. "Bud" (Mae) Gibbs; sisters, Mildred (Robert) Griffith, Rilla (C.L./Pickey) Waldrop and Norma (Leon) Compton.

Survivors include one son, Johnny (Ginger) Grantham; granddaughter, Leslie (Toby) Obenauer,  Marshall, N.C.; nieces, Ginger (Van) Black of Hanceville, Susan (Robert) Smith, Maryville, TN, Sally (Thomas) Casey, Hattiesburg, MS and Nancy Meadows, Picayune, MS; nephews, Michael (Susan) Meadows, Prairieville, LA,  Mike (Sonya) Gibbs, Hanceville, Tim Compton, Cullman.


Lawden Yates Obit

Lawden Henry Yates, Jr., was born March 2, 1947 in Gadsden, Alabama.  He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 74 on December 13, 2021 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 17th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mtn. Grove Congregational Cemetery. Reverend Phillip Doss will be officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday beginning at 6:00 P.M. at Hanceville Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Yates is survived by his wife, Judy Yates, Blountsville, AL; son, Lawden Christopher "Chris" Yates (Casey), Mobile, AL; daughter Amanda Lauren Burns (Chris), Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren: Bradley Yates, Caitlyn Horton, Kaden Crabtree, and Kelsie Crabtree; sisters, Bett Yates Adams (Mike);Keller Anne Knight (Jimmy); Tracy Yates Sodergren (Karl); Robin LaBounty (David); brother, Donald Neal Yates, (Teresa); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by father, Lawden H. Yates, Sr.; mother, Bessie Louise Yates;brother, Cooper Leland Yates; and sister, Mary Nell Yates.

 

Mr. Yates was an active member of Mt. Grove Congregational Christian Church in Hanceville where he served as a Deacon and a Trustee.  He was a graduate of Lineville High School; Auburn University with a Degree in Laboratory Technology; Birmingham School of Law, Juris Doctor; and Peace Officer Standard Certification, Birmingham Police Academy.

 

Mr. Yates enjoyed a distinguished career with the State of Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences as a Firearms and Toolmark Examiner, Laboratory Director for the Birmingham Division, and Attorney for the Department.  He retired in 1997 and was an attorney with Clark and Scott Law Firm in Oneonta, AL.  He then served as an Assistant District Attorney for Blount and St. Clair County; Prosecutor for the City of Blountsville; Adjunct Professor for UAB; and Forensic Scientist Consultant on criminal and civil cases nationwide.

 

Mr. Yates had many passions, but first and foremost was his love for his family, his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the Constitution of the United States of America.  His career was spent in the pursuit of truth and justice in whatever role he held.  He enjoyed most outdoor activities, but especially, hunting, canoeing and kayaking, and his love for gardening.

 

Mr. Yates will be missed by many but will remain in our hearts as he made a difference in every life he touched.

Anthony Self Obit

Funeral services for Anthony "Tony" Nathan Self of Hanceville will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Shelton Grove Cemetery. The family will welcome guests for a visitation on Thursday prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.


Mr. Self was born on January 4, 1986 in Cullman, Alabama. He died at the age of 35 on December 2, 2021 in Flagstaff, Arizona.


Survivors include his father, Lowell Self; mother, Diahn Peterson; wife, Jamatha Jones-Self; children, Brooklyn Self and Jordan Bentley; grandson, Ryker Bentley; grandmother, Edna Sue Cagle; siblings, Miranda Pullium, Andrew Hines, Cody Self, Jenn Mathers and Amanda Mathers; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and first cousins.


Mr. Self was preceded in death by three grandparents, Herndon Self, John Edward Peterson and Shirley Ann Peterson.

Mr. Fanning was born in Cullman, Al on Saturday, March 5, 1960 to Billy and Gearldine (Young) Fanning. He died at the age of 61 at Cullman Regional Medical Center on Thursday, December 2, 2021.

 

Survivors include his children, LeAnn Miller, Johnathan Fanning, Nathan Fanning, Warren Fanning and Dean Fanning; father, Billy Fanning; sister, Sherry (Dewayne) McClure; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Fanning was preceded in death by his mother, Gearldine Fanning.

Jeannette Thomas Obit

Funeral services for Jeannette Thomas of Hanceville will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 6, 2021 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Scott Arnold will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Garden City Cemetery. Visitation for the public will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 5th at Hanceville Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Thomas was born in Jefferson County, Alabama on Monday, November 8, 1948 to the late V.J. and Lora (Bullard) Powell. She died at the age of 73 at her residence in Hanceville on December 2, 2021. Jeanette attended Wallace State Community College where she obtained her associates degree in Nursing. After graduating she began working at Cullman Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse. To say she was a wonderful nurse is an understatement. Mrs. Thomas tended to many people throughout her nursing career and touched many lives. She had a passion for fulfilling the needs of everyone around her; including her own family.

 

Survivors include her husband, Steve Thomas; son, Stephen (Kim) Thomas; grandchildren, Kyle Thomas and Conner Thomas; siblings, Steve (Brenda) Powell, Cindy (Mike) Robbins, Martha Powell, Mindy (David) Torres and Mandy (Mike) Reaves; brother-in-law, David (Teresa) Thomas; sister-in-law, Suzanne Howell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Denise Deliz and brother, Jim Powell.

 

Pallbearers will be Mike Reaves, David Torres, Cameron Howell, Jeremy Joiner, Jordan Powell and Derek Bentley.

A graveside service for Sandy Miller of Hanceville will be 12:00 P.M. Friday, December 3, 2021 at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Reverends Wayne Wisener and Trueman Davis will be officiating. The family will welcome guests for a visitation on Friday prior to the service at Hopewell Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 A.M.

 

Mrs. Miller was born on June 13, 1950 to Beaman Gipson and Marcella (Thomas) Medlock. She died at the age of 71 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham on December 1, 2021.

 

Sandy was energetic and full of life. She loved spending time with family and friends. People were always drawn to her beautiful personality. Sandy, along with her husband, spent many years playing the role of Mr. and Mrs. Claus which eventually turned into a ministry for the both of them. She absolutely adored spending time with the children she met over the years and was happy to see them return year after year to pay her a visit. She also worked many years at Wal Mart Distribution Center in Cullman. The people she worked with were more than just co-workers; they were treated as if they were her own. There is no doubting her faith. Sandy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, a devoted Christian and warrior of God. From day to day she selflessly strived to spread love and happiness for all in need. Although she is no longer here with us physically; she will remain in our hearts forever.

 

Survivors include her husband, Carter Miller; son, Jim (Jenn) Miller; several grandchildren; brother, Mike (Debbie) Medlock; a host of nieces and nephews; and extended family, friends, and family at Wal Mart Distribution Center.
